Announcing Our New Yoga Instructors

We look forward to welcoming Lori Klinger and Felice Minkin as yoga instructors.  Our yoga classes will begin on November 29th in our new studio space.

Lori has been a student of yoga since her move from Texas to  Florida in 2001. With a desire to deepen her practice she began a 14-month teacher training program with Laura Tyree in 2004, where she studied Hatha yoga based on an Iyengar methodology, anatomy, pranayama, and yoga philosophy. She graduated in Feb 2005 with her 200hr Yoga Alliance certification and has been teaching since that time. Her introduction to Amy Ippoliti in Jan 2008 began her love affair with Anusara yoga.  Lori is currently Anusara Inspired® and has racked up countless hours in Immersions,  workshops, teacher trainings and retreats as she is committed to continuing her studies in the Anusara tradition. She is passionate about yoga and her teachings come straight from her heart.

She desires nothing more than to share the gifts of yoga with each of her students. Her warm energy, humor, and free-spirit shines through as she inspires her students to celebrate their true divine nature. Lori lives between Delray Beach and the Bahamas with her husband Craig, daughter, Cheyenne, son, Nick, and menagerie of animals.

Felice began practicing yoga in 1994 as a result of a suggestion from her Grandma to "try yoga". She decided to become certified as a Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance in 2009.

Felice has trained with a number of Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Iyengar and Hatha teachers, and she incorporates these styles into her classes.  She keeps you challenged, physically, to increase your strength, flexibility, and stamina, and she encourages you to be peaceful with your level of practice. Felice maintains the spiritual integrity of yoga throughout the class and ends every class with an inspirational message.

Her intention is to provide a space where students, through breath and asana, will create their own inner sanctuary with mindfulness, grace, strength and gratitude.

Felice lives with her amazing doggie companion, Luke, in Delray Beach. She is available for private and group classes and can be contacted on Facebook at "ByFelice Yoga".

Sugary Drinks Raise Diabetes Risk

October 28, 2010

People who drank the most sugar-sweetened drinks were 26% more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes and 20% more likely to develop metabolic syndrome — a series of pre-diabetic symptoms — according to researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health.

The Boston Globe reported Oct. 27 that an analysis of 11 previously published studies also estimated that drinking just one extra 12-ounce can of soda daily raised the risk of Type 2 diabetes by 15 percent. “There are a lot of factors that contribute to type 2 diabetes, but this is one modifiable factor that would be very easy for people to change,” noted researcher Vasanti Malik.

Maureen Storey, senior vice president for science policy at the American Beverage Association, said it was “overly simplistic, and simply misleading, to suggest that reducing or eliminating sugar-sweetened beverages from the diet will uniquely lower incidence of serious health conditions such as diabetes or metabolic syndrome.” But Mallik countered: “We’re not saying this is the only factor associated with diabetes, but it’s one [that] can really make an impact if it’s reduced.”

The research was published in the journal Diabetes Care..
